July 2006 Archives
I had a friend in town for a couple of weeks, so I haven't had much time to write. I thought I'd catch up on all my gratefulness.
- Having friends with whom you can start up a conversation again after not talking or seeing them for months.
- The small pleasures brought on by cheating on your diet, just a little. For example, being on the Atkins diet and enjoying a few rum and Diet Cokes with a friend until the wee hours of the morning.
- The new International Super Market that opened up just down the street from us. We can walk there! My husband calls it the theme park of food. I look forward to introducing new food to the girls (and us!) at dinnertime.
- The WonderBra. No comment.
- The way two random toddlers can walk up to one another in a store and just start hugging. It happens all the time! Maybe that's the key to world peace.
- Adobe Photoshop. I hardly know what I'm doing but I still love it.
- Seeing the puppy smile in the eyes of your old dog.
- Seeing the little boy smile in the eyes of your husband.
- The hours of fun a toddler can have with a couple of *unused* tampons she found in the closet. Maddie used them with her little animals, as finger puppets, etc. Those and a couple of cardboard boxes are what she's getting for Christmas this year.
- Those wonderful moments where I'm reminded what it's all about... not the house or car or clothes, but the experience.
- Guitar Hero, in the moments I'm actually able to play it. I'm hooked.
- The silliness of two toddlers and dance music. We all need to dance with such abandon and just let it all out more often.
(a day late...)
- The fact that my best friend is staying with us for a few weeks. Not only do I get to see her but I really get to connect with her on a level we haven't had since we were both in high school and saw each other daily.
- A wonderful 4th of July with our little family. Swimming, grilling out, going to the beach, watching fireworks. In all, it was perfect.
- The excitement we share with my brother-in-law who is about to have his first baby. It brings those feelings of blissful anticipation all back to me. It seems like only yesterday that we felt the same way.
- A really clean house, after some serious cleaning and purging.
- Some new summer clothes. They're mostly t-shirts and tanks, but at least they're new.
