Hitting us where it hurts

I went to Wal-Mart the other night to buy some more panties for Maddie. We're potty training and we needed more for the frequent changes throughout the day.

Like every other little girl, Maddie is currently IN LOVE with the Disney Princesses. She has some princess panties already, but I thought getting more might be good motivation for her.

I looked at the selection they carried:

Dora the Explorer $3.49
Nemo $3.49
Curious George $3.29
My Little Pony $3.49
Strawberry Shortcake $3.29
Disney Princesses $8.99
Care Bears $3.49

No, that's not a typo. The Princess panties were $8.99 for a set of 3!!! Oh holy crap! I wish I'd had my camera with me because I almost couldn't believe my own eyes. And they weren't mislabeled either.

I knew little girls were obsessed with Princesses but I had no idea just how far that obsession extended and how much stores would capitalize on it in any way they could. I mean, what mother is NOT going to buy the princess panties when she promised them to her little girl if she would just use the potty?

Don't pick them!

- A week with the girls where I didn't raise my voice too much.
- A trip to Cagle Dairy Farm where we visited the farm animals and saw the corn maze. I'd always wanted to see a corn maze. It was fun, but next time we'll probably go back at night, to make the maze even scarier and more difficult.
- Dancing with the Stars. It brings back those memories of me as a child wanting to be a dancer.
- The upcoming weekend full of Halloween activities.

Catch My Disease video

Ben Lee recently hosted a contest for a music video to his song "Catch My Disease." The winner was Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik, with this video. I have to admit it's pretty clever.

I'm in the middle of potty training Maddie.

We have an incontinent dog, Mallory.

Our cat, Astrid, likes to piss me off by peeing in random places - mostly our master bedroom closet.

I'm not sure how much more pee I can handle without going mad.

I think it ties in nicely with this month's Self-Portrait Challenge.

More powder, Mommy

Imperfection, as noticed by my daughter.

End of babyhood

Crib dance party
(We had a little dance to celebrate the end of the crib.)

I took down my youngest daughters' baby crib and it made me cry.

For the first time in nearly four years I am not 1) pregnant, 2) breastfeeding, 3) giving birth. I'm not sure what to do with myself.

I keep trying to convey this to my Bill, but I'm not sure he understands. I think my reminiscince of pregnancy and having a baby just scares him. But I don't want another one now. I'm quite happy with having two kids who become more self-sufficient and fun each day. I just can't seem to get over the fact that I don't already have another baby in my hands, that babyhood is gone for the next couple of years. I became pregnant with Josie when Maddie was barely 6 months old. According to that schedule, I should not only have a newborn by now, but I'd already be pregnant with our fourth.

I'm back

I just realized that the last post I wrote before today was over a month ago. I didn't realize it had been that long. I decided to take a little break from the internet for a while -- I still checked emails, but I didn't really answer any. I looked at one or two blogs, but my Bloglines feed is so full now that I'm not sure I'll ever catch up with most of them. I did a little surfing for things to put on my Christmas list this year, but that's it.

I have to admit that it was pretty nice. I'm back now, though, (after finally answering all those emails) and ready to blog like crazy.

How sad is it that I can't wait to mop the floors with my new floor cleaner?
